Training and career progression
We offer an extensive curriculum of internal training courses, seminars, and development programs to ensure you can maximize your potential. These include in-house seminars, workshops and short courses on economic topics, an extensive curriculum of professional training, mentoring, and coaching to enhance interpersonal relations, written communications, technology, management and leadership skills, and an impressive agenda of visiting scholars, leading academics, and a broad spectrum of eminent thought leaders. Language training programs are also provided to help you acquire, enhance, or maintain language skills necessary for performing work assignments in specific countries. You can also apply for study leave to complete graduate degrees or work on an outside project that advances the IMF's research agenda.
Mobility Assignments
Throughout your career at the IMF, you will be encouraged to take on new roles and projects that will broaden your professional experience, offer further challenges, increase your versatility, and help you acheive your potential. Mobility is seen as an important factor for career growth and advancement in the IMF. It also enhances the effectiveness of the organization by ensuring our staff is versatile, quick-learning, and readily deployable. This enables the IMF to bring knowledge from the organization to member country issues. In addition to an active internal job market, we offer programs to support mobility within the organization and externally to relevant jobs with other organizations.
Flexible Work Arrangements
We offer flexible work arrangements, including telework, adjusted starting times, compressed work schedules, part-time hours, and job sharing. During your career at the IMF, there are also several options for taking periods of leave without pay for personal reasons, to pursue further study, or take on an external assignment with another organization.
Diversity and Inclusion
The IMF is committed to setting an example of inclusiveness so that its multicultural and highly diverse staff feel at ease and have an opportunity to succeed. Ethics and Integrity
Just as the IMF encourages transparency and good governance as the bedrock of a well-functioning government, ethics and integrity serve as the foundation for our own institutional culture. As an IMF staff member, we expect you to observe the highest standards of professional ethics. Each employee is responsible for contributing to the good governance and reputation of the IMF by upholding our core values of integrity, honesty, inclusion, respect, excellence, and impartiality. Social Responsibility
The IMF runs an annual Giving Together program which supports employees giving back to the community, both locally and internationally. In 2018, the program raised $2.6 million in donations, helping to support 1,130 non-profit organizations as well as facilitating various staff volunteer events, including mentoring children from less-privileged backgrounds and preparing meals for the homeless. We have also set clear objectives for environmental sustainability in our workplace, with a continued aim to reduce our net impact on the environment. Since 2017, the IMF has been carbon-neutral and continue our efforts to reduce GHG emissions, with focus on energy usage, mobile emissions, and employee commuting. In 2019, we pledged to eliminate single-use plastics in all our Headquarters buildings.
