Working Environment

The IMF’s campus includes two adjacent buildings, HQ1 and HQ2, located blocks from the White House and the World Bank in the center of Washington, D.C. at the intersection of 19th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW.

Onsite amenities include:

  • Cafeterias and cafes: You can enjoy an international range of options in both formal and informal settings for breakfast, lunch, snacks, or coffee throughout the day in both buildings.
  • Childcare: Our onsite childcare center offers both convenience and safety with full-time care for a monthly fee and drop-in childcare for emergencies. The proximity to work means you can check on your children without interrupting the flow of your day.
  • Fitness: Our onsite Fitness Center offers strength training and cardiovascular equipment, group exercise, squash, racquetball, table tennis and volleyball courts, massage, sauna, and fitness assessment. All center personnel are nationally certified in fitness assessment/exercise program design, CPR, and First Aid. IMF staff and their families can also join our Bretton Woods Recreation Center located on a 280-acre site to the north of the city which offers 18-hole golf course, clubhouse, outdoor swimming pools, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, soccer fields, volleyball/basketball court, miniature golf course, pétanque courts, jogging trails, playgrounds ,and picnic areas.
  • Library: The IMF and World Bank share a network of library and resource centers providing our staff members with the extensive data resources needed for their work. The IMF Library provides resources on economics, finance, and international trade and has a collection that includes over 55,000 electronic journals, 17,000 e-Books, and nearly 200 databases. The library also provides research services in the form of data, publications, and news upon request.
  • Bank Fund Credit Union: The BFSFCU Credit Union offers an easy way to set up a bank account and access to credit, especially for staff members who are new to the United States. It has several office locations, including an office within the IMF HQ building, and multiple ATMs.
  • Safety and Security: We have a highly trained security team in place to ensure your safety and security whether at HQ or travelling, providing monitoring of emerging situations, training, and advice.
  • Commuting: We provide garage parking at the headquarters building and in nearby locations for a monthly fee. Bike racks and showers are available if you want to commute. Various subway stations and bus lines are within a short walking distance from the our Headquarters and we offers incentives if you choose to commute using the region’s extensive public transportation network through the Washington Area Metro Transit Authority's SmartBenefits program.
