Finance & Development, the IMF's flagship magazine and online editorial platform, publishes cutting-edge analysis and insight on the latest trends and research in international finance, economics, and development. The print edition is published quarterly in English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, while the web edition is complemented with additional, online-only content. Finance & Development is written by both IMF staff and prominent international experts, and is read by leading policymakers, academics, economic practitioners, and other decisionmakers around the world.

F&D Staff Members

Gita Bhatt

Gita Bhatt is the head of Policy Communications and editor-in-chief of F&D. She has a multifaceted communications background, with more than 20 years of professional experience, including in media and public affairs. During 2009-11, she worked at the Reserve Bank of India as adviser to the governor. She has an MSc from the London School of Economics and a bachelor’s in economics and philosophy from the George Washington University.

Maureen Burke

Maureen Burke is managing editor of F&D. Educated at Washington University in St. Louis and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, she has more than 15 years of experience in communications at the IMF. Before joining the Fund, she worked for the petrochemicals consulting firm Phillip Townsend Associates in Omaha, Nebraska, and Nice, France.

Peter J. Walker

Peter J. Walker is a senior editor for F&D. He has worked in a variety of roles at the IMF, including stakeholder engagement and speechwriting. Before joining the Fund in 2007, he wrote speeches on public policy and was an aide to a UK trade minister. Peter holds a bachelor’s degree in history and politics from the University of Warwick and a master’s degree in public policy from University College London.

Jeff Kearns

Jeff Kearns is a senior communications officer in the IMF policy communications division and managing editor of IMF Blog. He joined the Fund from Bloomberg News, where he was an economics editor in Beijing and Washington, a Federal Reserve reporter in Washington, and a US stock market reporter in New York. He also has covered state and local politics and government for California newspapers in Sacramento and San Jose. Jeff was born in Seattle and holds an English degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and master's in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley.

Nicholas Owen

Nicholas Owen is a senior editor for F&D. He joined the IMF’s policy communications division in 2021 after working as a correspondent for The Economist and Reuters in Southeast Asia, and earlier as an editor for The Economist Intelligence Unit and similar research companies in London, China and Singapore. Nicholas graduated from the London School of Economics with a bachelor’s degree in international history and a master’s degree in international relations.

Melinda Weir

Melinda Weir is F&D’s production manager. She has worked in the IMF’s Media Relations and Policy Communications divisions as well as the Fiscal Affairs Department. Previously she worked for National Public Radio News and as an English teacher in Japan and Mexico. She holds a bachelor’s in English and a master’s in international affairs and development.

Andrew Stanley

Andrew Stanley is an assistant editor for F&D. He oversees data visualization for various IMF content platforms. Before joining the Fund Andrew worked in various communications and research capacities in the energy sector, including in the Middle East, Washington DC, and London. He holds a master’s degree in international political economy from the Copenhagen Business School and a bachelor’s in business studies from Trinity College Dublin.

Smita Aggarwal

Smita Aggarwal is an assistant editor for F&D with more than 12 years of experience in communications and public affairs. Before joining the IMF in 2020, she led media relations and social media for the International Food Policy Research Institute, Washington, D.C. An award-winning journalist who has reported on India's political economy and conflict in Kashmir, Smita holds a bachelor's degree in computer applications and master's degrees in journalism from the Symbiosis International University and in public policy from the University of Missouri.

Bruce Edwards

Bruce Edwards is a producer of IMF podcasts. He's an award-winning audio producer and journalist who's covered armed conflicts, social unrest, and natural disasters from all corners of the world. He believes economists have an important role in solving the world's problems and aspires to showcase their research in every IMF podcast.

Noha Elbadawy

Noha Elbadawy is a video producer in the IMF’s Policy Communications division. She has over 10 years of professional communications experience, including consulting for governments and international organizations across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. She holds a BSc in Political Science from the American University in Cairo and a Master’s degree in Global Governance and Diplomacy from the University of Oxford.

Rekia Ennaboulssi

Rekia Ennaboulssi is F&D’s web manager. She has managed several high-impact digital projects and has more than 16 years of professional experience, including user experience and engagement on imf.org. Rekia previously worked as the digital communication officer at the World Bank. She holds an MSc from Johns Hopkins and a bachelor’s in Marketing from L’Institut Commercial de Nancy.
