Scaling up Private Sector Financing for Climate

Emerging markets and developing economies need significant climate financing to mitigate and adapt to climate change. This panel will discuss the key role of private finance in achieving these objectives. How can innovative finance instruments overcome some of the challenges and help broaden the investor base? What is the role of multilateral development banks in leveraging private investment and providing risk-absorption capacity? And how can the IMF play a catalytic role through its policy advice, surveillance, and capacity development—as well as through financing from its new Resilience and Sustainability Trust—to help tackle longer-term structural challenges arising from climate change?
