Introduction to Climate Change Indicators for Economic Analysis and Policy Formulation (ICCI)
The virtual workshop will consist of sixteen sessions held over four days, including presentations and knowledge sharing sessions. It will build awareness on the indicators that the Fund uses for surveillance and indicators presented on the Fund’s Climate Change Indicator Dashboard. It will also outline the methods of compilation and use of key macro-relevant climate change indicators. The workshop comprises lectures, open discussions, and a concluding panel discussion. Apart from the countries covered by the SARTTAC, namely, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka, the workshop could also be attended by other APD countries.
Target Audience
The seminar is aimed at officials from National Statistics Agencies, Ministries of Environment, and agencies responsible for compiling climate change related indicators.
Qualifications
Participants are expected to have a degree in economics or statistics; with experience in the compilation and use of environmental accounts and statistics.
Course Objectives
The workshop will familiarize national statisticians with the type of climate changes statistics that can be developed to better inform economic and financial policy. By providing an opportunity for peer learning, the workshop envisages acting as a catalyst to assist SARTTAC-member countries (and other APD countries) in identifying the mechanism that need to be put in place for regular compilation of nationally macro-relevant climate change indicators to facilitate the elaboration of national economic and financial policies that consider the economic implications of climate change. The workshop will also help the targeted countries prioritize topics for further technical assistance and capacity development
The workshop will:
- provide an overview of the type of indicators that can be used to help understand the economic and financial implications of climate change;
- discuss the sources, methods and uses of a few key indicators; and
- identify the linkages between these indicators and the critical climate change concerns of the countries represented.
