Press Release: IMF Managing Director Rodrigo de Rato Announces Intention to Appoint Jonathan Palmer to Newly Created Position of Chief Information Officer

Mr. Rodrigo de Rato, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), announced today his intention to appoint Mr. Jonathan Palmer as Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the IMF and Associate Director of the Fund's Technology and General Services Department (TGS).

Mr. Palmer, an Australian national, is currently the CIO and Deputy Statistician at the Australian Bureau of Statistics, responsible for the delivery of technology and corporate services across the organization. He has some 15 years of experience managing major information technology (IT) initiatives at both the strategic and operational levels, in recent years overseeing a group of more than 400 IT professionals. He has also served as a manager in the New Zealand Statistical Authority and as adjunct professor at the University of Canberra.

The new CIO position in the IMF has been created after the management structure of TGS was reorganized (see Press Release No. 06/143). Mr. Palmer is expected to assume his new position in late September 2006.
