Investment Funds and Financial Stability—Policy Considerations

September 17, 2021

The Monetary and Capital Markets Department of the IMF is publishing a Departmental Paper on Investment Funds and Financial Stability. The paper highlights vulnerabilities of the investment fund sector and identifies corresponding policy options against the backdrop of its significant growth in recent years and its behavior during the COVID-19 induced turmoil in 2020. The panel will discuss the relevance of the investment funds sector to financial stability, the main areas of reform that remain and how to achieve these in a manner that ensures both effectiveness and sufficient consistency across jurisdictions.
