News Brief: IMF's Köhler: Good Start to New Relationship with Argentina
February 13, 2002
IMF Managing Director Horst Köhler said in Washington, D.C. today:
"IMF Management and staff have had very positive and cordial discussions with Argentina's Economy Minister Jorge Remes Lenicov and his colleagues over the past two days. This was a good start to a new relationship, and there was broad agreement on the analysis of the economic and social situation. We reviewed the steps taken so far by the authorities, including the welcome reopening of the financial markets. We agree on the need for Argentina to have in place a comprehensive and consistent program that promotes sustainable growth. We will remain in close contact with Minister Remes and the Argentine team, and will continue to provide advice and support."
