Corrected News Brief: IMF Launches Web Site on Statistical Practices Relating to Foreign Direct Investment

October 2, 2002

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) launched today a web site on statistical practices relating to foreign direct investment (FDI) designed to meet the needs of a wide range of users such as researchers, financial analysts and journalists. The  web site provides information on the practices of 55 countries.

The web site has two main sections:

1. For each country, metadata describing data availability, data sources, compilation practices, and methodology used to compile the data.

2. Cross-country comparison tables summarizing by issue the practices of those 55 countries.

The information is based on a 2001 survey conducted jointly by the IMF and the OECD.

The description of the statistical practices for each country has been verified by the authorities of that country. The statements about whether a country's practices are in accordance with international standards for compiling FDI data are based on the judgment of IMF staff.

The web site address is www.imf.org/external/np/sta/di/mdb97.htm.
