ISRAEL: Flight Tickets Receive as Gift

Introduction

Flight tickets received from abroad to an Israeli resident as gift are included under the secondary income.

Scope, Methodology, Compilation Practices, and Data Sources

The estimation is based on three components which multiplied by each other:

  1. Percent of gifts- estimation from administrative data.
  2. Number of residents gets out of the border by air. The source of information is the Population and immigration authority (Border crossings),
  3. Expenditures abroad of residents (travel- import services). The source of information is the Household Expenditure Survey.

The estimation is calculated every quarter in Balance of Payments sector. The data included in the national accounts under other transfers from abroad.

Current Challenges and Conclusions

In the future we will want to investigate the scope of the phenomenon.
