CPIS Guide - Third Edition

The final version of the CPIS Guide, third edition, is now available. It builds on and updates the second edition of the CPIS Guide (2002) to reflect the adoption of the Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual, sixth edition (BPM6) as the standard framework for compiling cross-border position statistics.

Special Purpose Entities: Guidelines for a Data Template

Provides compilers guidance on the application of the IMF’s internationally-agreed definition of special purpose entities (SPEs) for external sector statistics. The Guidelines were developed at the request of the IMF Committee on Balance of Payments Statistics to facilitate the implementation of the agreed definition in 2018, with a decision tree to identify resident SPEs in host jurisdictions.

Informal Economy Data: Compilation Practices

This webpage disseminates information on the compilation practices of selected economies. The information covers collection and compilation techniques used by these economies to estimate informal, underground, and/or illegal cross-border transactions and positions in their international accounts.

Financial Access Survey Guidelines and Manual

This 2019 FSA Guidelines and Manual provides methodological guidance on the concepts, definitions, and detailed instructions for completion of the FAS questionnaire. Aimed at compilers of the FAS, it offers a conceptual framework for the collection, compilation, and presentation of financial inclusion variables for the FAS, including mobile money, loans, deposits, financial access channels, etc.

Monetary and Financial Statistics Manual and Compilation Guide (MFSMCG)

This Monetary and Financial Statistics Manual and Compilation Guide (Manual) updates and merges into one volume methodological and practical aspects of the compilation process for monetary and financial statistics (MFS). Aimed at compilers and users of MFS, it offers a conceptual framework for the collection, compilation, and analytical presentation of monetary data, which provide a critical input for monetary policy formulation and monitoring.

Versions of the Manual in other languages will follow in due course.

Financial Soundness Indicators: Compilation Guide (2019)

This 2019 FSI Guide updates the methodological guidance on the concepts and definitions, data sources and methods for the compilation and dissemination of financial soundness indicators. It includes new indicators to expand the cov­erage of the financial sector, including other financial intermediaries, money market funds, insurance corporations, pension funds, nonfinancial corporations, and households.

The Government Finance Statistics Manual 2014 (GFSM 2014) describes the macroeconomic statistical framework (the GFS framework) designed to support fiscal analysis. The manual provides the economic and statistical reporting principles to be used in compiling the statistics and guidelines for the presentation of fiscal statistics within an analytic framework that includes appropriate balancing items.

Export and Import Price Index (XMPI) Manual

The manual contains detailed, comprehensive information and explanations for compiling XMPIs.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) Manual

The manual provides updated guidance, including practical compilation advice reflecting current best practices, to measure the rate at which the prices of consumer goods and services are changing over time. It updates the previous edition, which was published in 2004.

Producer Price Index (PPI) Manual

The Manual provides clear, up-to-date guidance on the concepts, uses, methods, and economic theory of the PPI, including information on classifications, sources, compilation techniques, and analytical uses of the PPI.

System of National Accounts 2008 (2008 SNA)

The 2008 SNA is the latest version of the international statistical standard for the national accounts, and is an updated version of the 1993 SNA. It is the fifth version of the SNA, the first of which was published over fifty years ago.

Handbook on Securities Statistics

The Handbook on Securities Statistics is the first publication of its kind to focus exclusively on securities statistics. It has been prepared jointly by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), the European Central Bank (ECB), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in response to a request from the Working Group on Securities Databases (WGSD) to develop methodological standards for securities statistics and to improve information on securities markets.
