Eduard Brau Director, Finance Department (September 1999–September 2004) Biographical Information July 26, 2005 Mr. Brau served as Director of the Finance Department (formerly Treasurer's Department) from September 1999–September 2004. He holds a doctorate in economics from Duke University, U.S.A. after studying at the Universities of Göttingen and Berlin, Germany. He joined the Fund in 1969 and held various positions in the (now) Policy Development and Review Department, leaving as its Deputy Director in 1991 to become Special Advisor to the Deputy Managing Director. From 1992 to 1996, Mr. Brau was Deputy Director of the European II Department, dealing with the countries of the former Soviet Union and from 1996 to 1999, he was Director of the Office of Internal Audit and Inspection, conducting evaluations and audits, as well as coordinating the special external evaluations of Fund activities, prior to the establishment of the Independent Evaluation Office. Mr. Brau participated in the negotiations for a stand-by arrangement with the United Kingdom in the mid-1970s, headed the negotiations with Ghana in the early 1980s, represented the Fund at meetings of the Paris Club from 1982 to 1984, and worked on Latin American economic and financing issues during 1985 to 1990. He had responsibility for Fund budget matters in 1991, when the Fund began to adapt to the membership of the countries of the former Soviet Union, and later worked on issues concerning Ukraine and other formerly centrally planned economies. |
