Montfort Mlachila

montfort-mlachila-nov2016Montfort Mlachila is the IMF's Senior Resident Representative in South Africa. He has worked for the IMF for nearly 20 years. Until recently, he was an Advisor in the IMF's African Department (AFR) and was mission chief for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Prior to that, he was Deputy Chief of AFR's Regional Studies Division, where he was responsible for overseeing the preparation of the department’s flagship publication, the Regional Economic Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa. Before joining AFR, he served in the IMF's Strategy, Policy and Review, and Western Hemisphere departments. Before he joined the IMF, Mr. Mlachila was an economist at the Reserve Bank of Malawi. He has worked on a wide range of countries, and has published numerous articles in the areas of public finance, growth, international trade, and financial development. He holds a PhD in economics from CERDI, University of Clermont-Ferrand, France.
