Carolyn Bell Shaw Award to Margaret de Vries - January 3, 2003
On January 3, 2003, Margaret de Vries, retired IMF economist and historian, received the 2002 Carolyn Shaw Bell award from the American Economic Associations' committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession. The prestigious award honors an individual who has furthered the status of women in economics through example, achievement, or mentoring. Ms. de Vries, who joined the Fund in 1946 and retired in 1987, looks back on the trials and rewards of being a female economist the Fund's early days.
