Summary:
Economic activity continues to recover after the 2014–2015 political transition. However, despite some improvements in recent years, Burkina Faso’s human development index remains among the lowest globally and poverty remains relatively high. The government is striving to meet the country’s development challenges, which have recently intensified due to security shocks, through implementation of the 2016–2020 national and economic social development plan (PNDES). The authorities have requested a three-year arrangement under the ECF in an amount equivalent to of SDR 108.36 million (90 percent of quota) in support of their medium-term economic reform program.
