James Morsink

James Morsink is a Deputy Director in the Western Hemisphere Department (WHD) with oversight of the Caribbean region. He has worked on global macroeconomic and macrofinancial issues at the IMF for more than 30 years. During the 1990s, he worked on the transition to a market economy in Mongolia, the financial crisis in Thailand, and the banking troubles in Japan. In the 2000s, he helped lead the work on the World Economic Outlook, then led missions to the United Kingdom and Ireland, and negotiated the Stand-By Arrangement with Hungary and the Flexible Credit Line with Poland. Before joining WHD, he was a Deputy Director in the Monetary and Capital Markets Department, where he had oversight responsibility for financial sector assessments. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
